How The Dogwood Diary got its Name

April 20, 2019

When I was coming up with a name for my blog, it was far from an easy process. Saying it was a process is actually being pretty generous. It was kind of like staring at a blank wall. Or that feeling when you sit down at your computer to write a paper but you have no idea what you’re going to write about. That was me.

I knew I didn’t want to pigeon hole myself into one small little niche because I’m interested in so many different things. I love beauty, teaching, gardening, shopping, and of course The Lord, plus lots of other things. So how do you come up with a blog name that incorporates all of those things?

I had actually prayed that if The Lord wanted me to get this blog off the ground, that He would give me a name. Not long after that, I was in my room working on some blog entries, when my sister came in. She sat down and started talking and she asked me how it was going. I told her okay, but I couldn’t come up with a name. So she starts doing a little research and asking me some questions. I tell her I’d like for it to include my love of plants and gardening but also representing my southern appalachian culture (of which I’m very proud).

It was then we had our lightbulb moment. She said, “What’s the state flower for North Carolina?” The Dogwood! Then, of course, I needed something alliterative. Then “The Dogwood Diary” was born.

Who knew naming a blog could be so difficult? But, once again, The Lord pointed me in the right direction and moved that roadblock out of my way.

When was your last lightbulb moment?
